Odyssey 2010 Calligraphy Conference

Going to a calligraphy conference can be a real treat - you get to learn all kinds of wonderful things - and you also get to meet a lot of really neat people.

If that's down your alley, you might want to check out the Odyssey 2010 Calligraphy Conference.

I've had the privilege of learning from some of the instructors listed, so I know this will be a great experience.

Envelope Glue

If you make your own envelopes for calligraphy, some glue for your envelope flaps just might come in handy, right?

I gave you a long list of folded envelope ideas in the last post, but sometimes you want an envelope you can seal.

So head on over to Envelope Glue for a glue recipe you can make for yourself.

Letterfolding & Envelope Folding

Creating an envelope, or folding your letter to make its own envelope can be a fun part of your calligraphy.

How would you like to learn how to make a:
• Daisy Letterfold
• Florentine Letterfold
• Valentine Letterfold
• Butterfly Envelope
• Frog Envelope
• Harlequin Envelope
• Wallet Envelope
• and much more?

Head on over to Letter & Envelope Folding to learn more.

Kelmscott Chaucer

Illuminated and decorated books can be a feast for the eyes. While this one is not technically a calligraphy book - since the book was printed, not hand-lettered, the Kelmscott Chaucer book is a visual feast.

The artwork is fabulous and can give any calligrapher a wealth of ideas for decorated or illuminated letters, as well as good layout and design ideas.

Thought you just might enjoy it too - so check it out - Kelmscott Chaucer.

Virtual Manuscript Library

Interested in learning from ancient manuscripts? I recently found a website that is a treasure trove of manuscripts from as far back as the ninth century and possibly even more.

Read up about it on my website at Virtual Manuscript Library and catch the link from there to check it out.

The only thing is, I should probably give you fair warning that if you love letters, you may find yourself spending far more time here than you should :)!

I know I have - but you'll be seeing the results of that in pages to come. So at least I have a good excuse, eh?!

Uses for Calligraphy - 270+ and counting

You hear rumblings now and again that calligraphy is an out-dated skill. I'm really not sure where that comes from, other than from people who haven't taken a good look of late at what's happening in the world of calligraphy.

As part of my research for the Dancing Pen Calligraphy website, I started a list of uses for calligraphy. Then I added a separate page just for wedding uses for calligraphy.

The general Uses for Calligraphy page already has a list of over 200. The Wedding Calligraphy page has a list of over 70. And I usually add several more each week.

I've been more than pleasantly surprised at how many different ways calligraphy is being used these days. Hardly a dying art, wouldn't you say?

Head on over to the lists and get inspired,
Evelyn
